We seek a core group who could volunteer three or four times per year. There will be a sign-up sheet at Meeting asking for two volunteers each non-First Day School Sunday. One volunteer will pair with a paid childcare provider to supervise play for the children under 5 years old. The second volunteer will pair with a paid childcare provider to supervise activities for children 5 years and older. This is an opportunity to get to know our wonderful group of children. • Baltimore Yearly Meeting’s Annual Session

  The theme of the 2024 Annual Session is “A testimony to social justice: Rise up and let your life speak.”

  The word ‘testimony’ is used by Quakers to describe a witness to the living truth within the human heart as it is acted out in everyday life. It is not a form of words, but a mode of life based on the realization that there is that of God in everybody, that all human beings are equal, that all life is interconnected. It is affirmative but may lead to action that runs counter to certain practices currently accepted in society at large. Hence a propeace stance may become an anti-war protest, and a witness to the sacredness of human life may lead to protests against capital punishment. These testimonies reflect the corporate beliefs of the Society, however much individual Quakers may interpret them differently according to their own light. They are not optional extras, but fruits that grow from the very tree of faith.

  Many Friends today have been called to public witness about white supremacy, peacemaking, mass incarceration, health care, public education, and environmental stewardship, as historically Friends have witnessed on slavery, women’s suffrage and the penal system.

  How are you led to respond to the call to affirm human dignity, root out prejudice, and rejuvenate our culture of activism?

  More than 30 workshops will be offered at BYM Annual Sessions. From Bible study and Quaker theological studies to a farm tour and more than a dozen peace and social justice topics, there is a workshop (or two or three) for you!   How do we quiet our brains enough to hear the still, small voice within us? How might we deepen our experience of meeting for worship? Experiment with Light is a meditative and centering practice based upon Rex Ambler’s book Light to Live By, which describes early Quaker meditative habits and translates them into a highly accessible process of clearness and understanding. All are welcome to attend. First-time participants find the process quite easy to follow and often richly rewarding.

  This is an invitation to two such sessions on Sunday evenings, January 14 and 28, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. People will listen to the prompts on their own at their own homes. The following link should work to hear the words in audio format:

  Youth care is available on non-holiday weekends for children over 5 years of age on non-First Day School Sundays (i.e., the 2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays of a month) during Meeting for Worship. We seek a core group who could volunteer three or four times per year. There will be a sign-up sheet at Meeting asking for two volunteers each non-First Day School Sunday. One volunteer will pair with a paid childcare provider to supervise play for the children under 5 years old. The second volunteer will pair with a paid childcare provider to supervise activities for children 5 years and older. This is an opportunity to get to know our wonderful group of children. It is also an opportunity to support parents of younger children who wish to attend Meeting for Worship. Crafts and game activities are provided. You may also sign up via a signup genius link:

  Childcare is available on non-holiday weekends from 10:45 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. for children under 5 years of age. Paid caregivers will provide this service.

  Please note that all children must be signed in and signed out at the child care room by their parent or caregiver. For new and visiting families, parents will be asked to fill out a very short registration form. The BFM Youth Safety Policy requires that all young people (infant to 18 years old) must be supervised by a parent, teachers, or child care staff at all times.

  How do we quiet our brains enough to hear the still, small voice within us? How might we deepen our experience of meeting for worship? Experiment with Light is a meditative and centering practice based upon Rex Ambler’s book Light to Live By, which describes early Quaker meditative habits and translates them into a highly accessible process of clearness and understanding. All are welcome to attend. First-time participants find the process quite easy to follow and often richly rewarding.

  This is an invitation to two such sessions on Sunday evenings, January 14 and 28, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. People will listen to the prompts on their own at their own homes. The following link should work to hear the words in audio format:
