First Day School is held every Sunday for K-8th grade during the school year. Young people (K-8) attend Meeting for Worship with their families at 11:00  a.m. for the first fifteen minutes. At 11:15, children leave the Meeting Room to meet teachers for multi-age activities or classes (K-3rd; 4-8th). For children, ages infant through pre-K, child care is available each week in the nursery, located downstairs in the Meeting House. Parents or guardians are always welcome to accompany their children, especially for the first visit.  On holiday weekends, there is supervised play on the playground.

Please join us for potluck in the Groome Building at the rise of Meeting (12:30). Potluck is usually the second Sunday of the month, and is a good way to make connections with others. There is always enough food, although we welcome dishes to share (no nut products, please). Members of the Outreach & Communications Committee usually host a table for people who are newer to Meeting and may want to sit together to make new friends.

Responsibility for providing hospitality at the rise of Meeting each week and hosting potluck rotates among BFM Committees.

How do we quiet our brains enough to hear the still, small voice within us?  How might we deepen our experience of meeting for worship? Experiment With Light is a meditative and centering practice based upon Rex Ambler’s book Light to Live By, which describes early Quaker meditative habits and translates them into a highly accessible process of clearness and understanding.  This is a small group practice. All are welcome to come try it out and attend as you are so moved.

Dates: The  group usually meets on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the months at 7:30 p.m.  Location:   We meet in the leader's home. See the weekly Bulletin or use the "Contact us" link on our website to get the upcoming location and dates.

    • 9:15 AM - 10:45 AM
    • Groome Building Multipurpose Room

Please join us in the Groome Building Multipurpose Room on Sunday, September 22, at 9:15 a.m. for a Workshop on the Gift of PresenceThis workshop will explore several dimensions of what it means to be present in service to another, what can get in the way, and how we might overcome those obstacles. While focusing primarily on presence at end of life, we will also explore simple practices for being present to all of life. We will draw from several sources, particularly Frank Ostaseski’s book, The Five Invitations: Discovering What Death Can Teach Us about Living Fully. Our time will include experiential practice and sharing of experiences and inner wisdom.

It’s been said that “presence” is the most important gift we give to another, especially at the end of life. True presence for another means more than physical presence. It involves “...an offering of our awareness, our willingness, and our participation,” says author Gunilla Norris. At times our calculating minds can get in the way, and we think we must “do something,” defaulting into helping or fixing mode, or getting distracted and not really seeing or hearing the other. Yet what the one with whom we sit most needs is for us to simply “be” there in self-giving service.

The workshop will be led by a BFM member who offers individual spiritual guidance and serves as Lead Volunteer Chaplain at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He also teaches in the Shalem Institute's program for spiritual guidance and serves on the Board of Companioning the Dying: Opening Fully to Living, a 9-month formation and enrichment program in Montgomery County for those accompanying persons at end of life.

Please use the "Contact Us" form to request child care by September 13.

Please join us at the rise (close) of Meeting in the meeting room on Sunday, September 22 (12:30), as we gather with refreshments for a conversation in which we hope to get to know one another better and help each other feel at home at BFM. The session will begin as the way opens and close at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome. This is a good chance for new folks to share about their background and what brought them to BFM, and to ask questions. Even long-time members often don't know each other, so all can share, learn, and build community.
