  The Comparative Religions class has a course in 2024-25 through May 20 - Great Minds of the Eastern Intellectual Tradition - 36 lectures by Professor Grant Hardy of the University of North Carolina at Asheville, via The Great Courses. This is a survey course which begins with the Vedas and Upanishads and ends with Sun Yat-sen and Mao Tsedong, covering Iran, India, China, Tibet, Korea, and Japan. We meet weekly on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom for a half-hour lecture followed by a half-hour discussion. All are welcome. If just a few topics seem interesting, you are welcome to just come for those.

We seek a core group who could volunteer three or four times per year. There will be a sign-up sheet at Meeting asking for two volunteers each non-First Day School Sunday. One volunteer will pair with a paid childcare provider to supervise play for the children under 5 years old. The second volunteer will pair with a paid childcare provider to supervise activities for children 5 years and older. This is an opportunity to get to know our wonderful group of children.   How do we quiet our brains enough to hear the still, small voice within us? How might we deepen our experience of meeting for worship? Experiment with Light is a meditative and centering practice based upon Rex Ambler’s book Light to Live By, which describes early Quaker meditative habits and translates them into a highly accessible process of clearness and understanding. All are welcome to attend. First-time participants find the process quite easy to follow and often richly rewarding.

  On both Sundays, people can listen to the prompts on their own in their own homes.    The BYM Annual Session Program Committee is hard at work this winter preparing for Annual Session 2025! BYM Friends will gather from July 29 - August 3 at Hood College in Frederick, MD. Together for one week we will conduct our business, learn from one another,  enjoy fun and fellowship and practice building community in the manner of Friends. Workshop proposals are now open - and we encourage BYM Committees, Monthly Meetings, individual Friends, and Quaker organizations to share their gifts and talents. The 2025 Annual Session theme is Guided by Spirit: Living Our Faith in a Challenging World. Stay tuned for more details about Annual Session 2025 coming in April!
