Sunday, May 18, is BFM’s 34th annual spring
celebration of Middle Eastern food, great White Camel sale bargains, a
silent auction and games for the children and adults. From the
proceeds, we provide scholarships each year for students at the
Ramallah Friends Schools in the West Bank. Although the Advancement
& Outreach Committee is responsible for organizing the event, we
will be calling on many of you to help in making this a successful
effort.Here's how:
- Donate Food & Drink: We welcome
volunteers to prepare delicious Middle Eastern food, serve grape
leaves, sneak hot dogs to finnicky kids, cut up baklavah, and clean up.
Contributions of food and drink are most welcome. Sign up sheets will
be on the Library bulletin board.
- White Camel Sale: Please
begin to set aside your gently used or new items for the White Camel
sale. Sporting goods, jewelry, ill-chosen but otherwise nifty wedding
presents, and kids’ toys are all popular. Please do NOT bring
books, clothing or furniture. Please bring items before the day of
Spring Fling:
- Contact Jane Meleney Coe at bethesdafm@igc.org or 301-320-5083 for storage space any time from now;
- A&O folks will be in the Meetinghouse on Saturday, May 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to accept donations; or
- Bring items to Meeting on Sundays in May for storage in the office.
- Silent Auction: Donate services or biddable items. Please contact
Brendan Weiss (240-497-1971, brendan.weiss@starpower.net) or Jillaine
Smith (202-363-1306, jillainedc@yahoo.com) with your offers. Here are some ideas:
- An hour’s landscaping advice from a professional landscaper,
- Kitchen or bathroom renovation advice from a professional,
- A tour of the Folger Library’s special collection.
- Offers of babysitting; lawn mowing; a guided tour;
- Food items such as an apple pie or the promise of a dinner-for-two.
- A canoeing or sailing opportunity; teaching a sport or a skill you know.
- Or maybe you have a vacation retreat spot you are willing to offer for a weekend when you and family won’t be there.
