Book table continues to seek to supply books that address the interests and concerns of Friends, to spark discussion and sharing in the community, and to offer resources to families and Friends of all ages. This year meeting officially recognized the Book Table Committee and Nominating Committee assisted in finding volunteers to replace members no longer able to serve. The committee consists of myself, Jim Rook, Mary Hubachek, and Karen Kuehl.
This year we experimented with ordering holiday sale books directly rather than receiving them on consignment from QuakerBooks. Because we were able to buy books at larger discounts this way, the result was better financially. Since we did not return the remaining books at the end of the sale, however, we also ended up with a larger inventory than we have had in the past, 258 items compared to 197 on hand last year. About 20-30 items are offered on consignment for other Friends or committees.
In order to free up space for some of the wonderful new books becoming available all the time, we are planning a back-to-school sale. We will offer substantial discounts on those books that you have been looking at for a long time but have not quite given yourself permission to buy.
As always we welcome suggestions and recommendations for books to offer.
Respectfully submitted,
Leslie Sussan
