January 2007
Each First Day after Meeting for Worship the committee has overseen hospitality provided by the various committees of the Meeting. As in previous years hospitality has typically been provided in the library. Having survived the several years of daycare in our library as well as the recent inconvenience and dislocations caused by the construction, we are look forward to having full use of the Meeting House and access to the library.
Potlucks have faced even greater difficulty this year. The regularly scheduled potlucks in September and October were cancelled because the Groome Building was full of storage for the school and was not accessible.
Early in 2007 the committee was notified that the school food service would no longer be able to provide kitchen staff for our Sunday potlucks; food service personnel valued their time for worship and family over the interruption of the day and the meager pay they received. Since then we have not had access to the kitchen stoves or dishwasher. Consequently, participants have provided cold foods, kept foods warm on hotplates or wrapped them carefully, and either brought dinnerware from home or used disposable plates and utensils. The committee welcomes ideas and suggestions as it continues to explore options for potlucks.
The committee served only one special event during 2007: the reception following the memorial service for Mary Kay Davis in February.
