Annual Report of the Fellowship and Hospitality Committee at Bethesda Friends Meeting

December 2010

This year's events called for frequent active participation from committee members. At our organizing meeting in January we created our scheduled responsibilities for alerting other committee clerks in advance of their coffee hour and potluck duties. We tried to create a system for being informed of low supplies and purchasing them.

The committee immediately needed to plan and staff the reception hospitality which followed Maria Kochavi's memorial meeting. That occurred in January. In March, we planned for Stacey Widdicombe's memorial meeting reception which we staffed when it was held in April. Then shortly thereafter in May, our committee responded in limited time with Ministry and Worship and Pastoral Care to provide reception following Allen Brimmer's memorial meeting.

In early summer we were asked by Adult Religious Education members to help with refreshment Hospitality for the October Spiritual Formation Beginning Program in October. We agreed and during September planned staffing and what to serve. September was also our first hosting month for coffee hour and pot luck; November was our other month for those responsibilities. In the coming year, the committee will switch to take on May hospitality with Stewardship and Finance taking November so that we could help during Spring Fling that Advancement & Outreach organizes.

We are very grateful for Claudia Villabord's energetic and generous spirited work as our Sidwell School kitchen staffer at potlucks as well as at those memorial service receptions. And, while we began the year with 9 adult and 1 teen member, two of the adult members told us they would not be able to participate in committee duties after the mid-year. In the next year, we want to follow up on a suggestion to ask the Nominating committee for Friends who said they couldn't be on a committee but who'd be willing to help out the F&H committee on an ad hoc basis.

Those continuing on the committee next year hope to locate good sources of eco-friendly cups and to improve in organizing supplies.
